Commissioned by INA-GRM (2008) (~ 12') Composition for electroacoustic instrument The interpretation of Incises -as well as its previous composition- unfolds in a constant dialogue between gesture and listening : from cracked spaces to broken trajectories, the gesture carves matter, crackles it, traces trenches into it... A space cracks down, the next one emerges... Between theses slits a trajectory for listening gets drawn.
For this piece, I wished to work, in the context of my residency at INA-GRM, with the "Coupigny" analog synthesizer, from which were produced the sonic materials of some of the major works of the GRM repertoire. This choice was for me a way to affirm my place in a certain continuity with the statement of this musical research center, and in particular in its early days -60s/70s- where were born all kinds of experimentations on the acoustic material, underlying on these two - fundamental for me - components, that are gesture and listening.
I then "replayed" these sonic materials of the -analogic- synthesizer in a mode contemporary device -digital-, in order to extend this relationship to the gesture -this dialogue between the hand and the machine producing the sound that François Bayle, for instance, told about- beyond the moment of the production of the material, to the interpretation situation itself, at the moment of the performance, as well as in the composition process.
